Happy Thanksgiving!

The Ripley Free Library Board Members and Staff would like to express our thanks and gratitude to everyone who supported us throughout the year through regular patronage, donations, grants,
participation at our fundraising events, and club memberships. Many thanks to the Friends of the Library who play an active role in keeping the library a welcome place to visit and a special thanks to all the volunteers who gave of their time and effort to keep things running smoothly.

We also give thanks that Ripley Free Library is now automated, allowing our patrons easy access to libraries in Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties. It was a combined effort of many helping hands that made this possible.

Lastly, we give thanks to those who voted “yes” on our recent proposition at the polls. It is through
your support that we can continue to keep the library a focal point for young and old alike. Thank you

The Ripley Free Library will be closed Thursday, Nov 22nd thru Sunday, Nov 25th.

We Made It!

Whew! The Silent Auction is over and it was a great success. Many thanks to all the volunteers who gave of their time to make this event our biggest fundraiser of the year. A special thank you to all those who gave donations. Without them the silent auction would not have been possible. Plus a huge debt of gratitude needs to go to those who came to shop for bargains. It was great to see familiar faces once again. Now this cat needs to find a quiet spot to nap. Thank you everyone.

A Tale Dark & Grimm by Adam Gidwitz

I haven't written a review for awhile because frankly, I like to write about books that really catch my attention.  There have been quite a few that were good, but every once in awhile you come across a certain book that you just can't put down.  A Tale Dark & Grimm is one such book.  This book dwells on the tale of Hansel and Gretel, those poor children who wandered off in the forest only to find the witch's  house made of sweets.  Now you might think to yourself, that was just a silly old fairy tale but you haven't heard the REAL story of their fate until you read this book.  As the tale unwinds, the narrator (who seems a bit odd too), guides you through the perils they face.  Trust me.  This book is a thriller that will keep you turning the pages.  It's rather gruesome at times but just remember that it is only a fairy tale.

A Tale Dark & Grimm is rated J for a junior book, but personally I strongly suggest that it be read by 12 year olds and up.  I encourage adults to give it a try too.    T

Happy Birthday!

the Library Cat
Thackeray will be celebrating his birthday next week on Friday, June 22nd. He will be 11 years old! Please stop by the library for some cake and wish him a happy birthday. (He loves to receive cards in the mail if you'd like to send one!)

In case you didn't know, Thackeray has lived at the library since he was just a kitten.  He loves to greet people, sit in the sun, stand in front of the computer monitors, ask questions, find interesting quotes and just chat on Facebook, plus he writes an occassional book review on our library blog.  He loves to read, entertain the knitters group and just be lazy.

Thackeray doesn't like to be picked up or chased, but he really loves it when children check out books.  We love having him here at the library!

meal along with a night of fun and audience participation. This murder mystery dinner will be held
Saturday, April 28th at 6 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Ripley. Call 736-3913 to reserve a seat or
